Ramen Yashichi

One of the best and most heartwarming and unique bowls of ramen that we had in Osaka, Japan was Ramen Yashichi. Weekian was so insistent on going there, even though it was out of the way of our itinerary. And now I know why. When we arrived, it was about 1.15pm and I was starving (having not had breakfast that morning). Since the restaurant was full, the staff deeply apologized (with the polite manner that all Japanese seem to have) and asked us if we were willing to wait. I almost backed out because I was so hungry, but decided to wait, since we’d already gone all the way there.

Lola's Cafe

Lola’s Café is just a short 5-minute walk from Kovan MRT. Even though it is among shop houses the residential area, there is a big sign above the café that you won’t miss. We went there on a Saturday afternoon at about 1pm and there was a long lunch queue with about a 15-minute wait. Fortunately, we were just 2 people who were too hungry to wait to get seated inside. There are about 4 seats outside the café and we were immediately seated WEW. Their menu may not seem to have a large variety of foods to choose from at first glance, but they do have interesting food combinations and choices that we have not seen elsewhere. We honestly had such a hard time choosing what we wanted to eat.

PocoLoco

We’re kicking off our first post with one of our favourites – PocoLoco! Situated at a quiet corner in Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, PocoLoco is a cosy and family-friendly restaurant. The restaurant is dimly-lit, which makes it actually a really great date-place. We’ve been to PocoLoco SO MANY TIMES, but we just had to specially go back to write this first post. The first thing we got was the Calamari al Pomodoro Piccanti ($7), which is really calamari with a spicy tomato sauce. Even though the squid was slightly tough, the batter was crispy and so simply and deliciously seasoned with salt and pepper.
